Jan 7, 2009 Another Powder Day in Summit County
Jan 7, 2009, Thu - Today is another powder day after 4-8 inches fell on the ski areas in the last 24 hours. Keystone, Copper Mountain and Arapahoe Basin are reporting 4" new and Breckenridge 8" new snow in 24 hours.

Jan 3, 2010 Powder Day at Summit County Resorts!
Jan 3, 2010, Sun - Fresh powder fell yesterday and overnight to give Summit County between 5" and 7" of fresh champagne powder. Keystone reports 5" new, Arapahoe Basin 6", Copper Mountain 7", and Breckenridge 6.5".

Dec 30, 2009 Arapahoe Basin to Replace Exhibition Lift
Dec 30, 2009, Wed - Arapahoe Basin will replace the Exhibition triple chair lift with a high-speed detachable quad lift this summer. The time to get from the base to mid-mountain will take 1/2 the time, reduced to 3 minutes from 6.
The new lift will have a capacity of 2,000 people per hour, a length of 2,877 feet and a vertical rise of 719 feet. The location of the bottom terminal will not change. The upper terminal will be slightly uphill and to the west of the existing one.
The ski area has contracted Leitner-Poma to build and install the lift, with construction scheduled to begin mid-June. It will not impact this season's tentative June 6 closing date, according to spokeswoman Leigh Hierholzer. The project will cost about $4 million.
The new lift will have a new name and suggestions can be sent to Leigh Henceroth at alanh@a-basin.net. Whoever dreams up the winning name will receive a 2010-2011 A-Basin season pass or a $300 gift certificate to Arapahoe Sports.

Dec 18, 2009 Intrawest Officially Transfers Ownership of Copper Mountain to Powdr Corp
Dec 18, 2009, Fri - Ownership of Copper Mountain Resort from Intrawest was officially finalized to Powdr Corp. Powdr Corp is based in Utah and its representatives said the day-to-day operations at Copper will not be changed.
"We're continuing with the season as-is. Powdr Corp operates very differently from some other places. Each of the resorts manages itself, and there's not a lot of involvement at the corporate level. We work here in Park City to support them, but we lean on the extremely competent team already in place to lead the resort within its community.", Powdr Corp spokesperson Krista Parry said.
Powdr Corp's chief executive officer, John Cumming, said he was "grateful for the opportunity to expand the Powdr family into Colorado". Gary Rodgers, who ran Copper Mountain under Intrawest, will stay on as the resort's president and general manager. Powdr Corp has pledged to make few changes to the guest experience at Copper. All multi-mountain passes and vacation packages will be honored this season. Among those is the Rocky Mountain Super Pass, which gives passholders access to Intrawest-owned Steamboat and Winter Park. The company does not have plans this season to offer new pass products that include Powdr's other resorts.
According to Parry, Powdr Corp's business strategy centers on the mountain. "Powdr really focuses on providing an unparalleled on-mountain experience, and everything else is a bonus. Why do people live in or choose to visit the mountains? To ski and ride. That's why we focus on making that experience the best it can be".
Orin Sheldon, a ski tech in Killington, Vt., said Powdr Corp has remained true to its on-mountain focus at Killington Resort. "I think they've run it pretty responsibly. They've kept the best people. They're sinking money into what needs money, like updating lifts and snowmaking — not any crazy ideas or anything".
Another of Powdr Corp's major emphases is environmental sustainability. "Our goal is to provide that on-mountain experience for generations to come. Being good stewards of the land is a big part of that", Parry said. Powdr's director of environmental affairs plans to visit the resort soon to assess its carbon footprint and existing environmental efforts.

Dec 14, 2009, Mon - All ski resorts in Summit County are reporting new powder over the weekend. The totals are 5-10 inches in all ski areas!
