Oct 13, 2013 Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is First to open for Season Today

Oct 13, 2013 - Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is the first to Open this Ski Season and to stay open for the season.  Arapahoe Basin opens with an 18 inch base this morning.  Arapahoe Basin is in Summit County and 11 miles from Dillon. Arapahoe basin is also accessable from a free Summit Coounty bus and its bus runs from the Keystone River Run bus stop.

Loveland Basin is scheduled to open next week, Keystone and Copper Mountain Nov. 1 and Breckenridge Nov. 8.

They, along with A-Basin vice president and COO Alan Henceroth, will likely tell you the real competition is in Colorado, and it’s usually between the two of them — though southern Colorado’s Wolf Creek Ski Area stole the Colorado crown two years ago thanks to an early winter storm.
A-Basin was also first to open last year when it opened Oct. 17.  They have been competing for the earliest opening with 2 other ski areas.  Two years ago Wolf Creek was the first to open with an early snowfall on Wolf Creek Pass.  Three years ago Loveland Basin was the first to open.
